Zhangjiagang Xiangshan Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Xiangshan Scenic Area is located 15 kilometers west of Zhangjiagang city center, at an elevation of 136.6 meters. In the past, many ancient celebrities visited Xiangshan, leaving behind legends and historical sites. Nowadays, most of the historic relics on the mountain are newly built. For locals, Xiangshan is more like a park suitable for hiking. The paths are lined with lush trees and the environment is pleasant. Although the mountain is not high, the stairway paths are quite steep, making it a great spot for weekend outings to get some exercise and fresh air.

The main entrance of the scenic area is located at the eastern end. Self-driving visitors can drive all the way to the mountain top, but note that self-drive vehicles and pedestrians do not use the same gate. Self-drivers should go north from the main entrance along Wangjiang Road, which turns west after a short distance—this is the road to the summit. Pedestrian visitors will first see a landscaped garden area composed of Piaoxiang Lake, Anyang Lake, and Mingxiang Lake at the foot of the mountain after entering the main gate. The view is open and spacious. Then head west and climb up via the stairway path. There are signs along the way indicating directions. One of the interesting spots you'll pass is the Cangjun Cave.

Reaching the nine-story Lingfeng Tower means you’ve arrived at the mountaintop. From here, you can overlook the rural scenery below. The mountain breezes are refreshing and very pleasant. The mountaintop of Xiangshan is quite large, featuring attractions such as the Plum Blossom Hall—said to have once had a plaque inscribed by Su Dongpo—and the Shengguo Pool where the legendary figure Yu the Great drank water. There is also a pond where you can fish for a fee. If you're feeling energetic, you can also take a detour to visit Xiangshan Temple. To descend without retracing your steps, you can take the self-drive road, but be mindful of safety as vehicles occasionally pass by.

1. Free-entry periods still include staff and lighting on-site. 2. There are many mosquitoes on the mountain in summer, so remember to bring insect repellent.
