Xichun Pavilion

The Twenty-Four Bridges Scenic Area includes Xichun Pavilion, Linglong Realm, General Xiaoli’s Painting Scroll, Wangchun Tower, and the Twenty-Four Bridges. Xichun Pavilion is the main structure of the Twenty-Four Bridges Scenic Area. It faces Little Golden Hill from afar, both situated at the bend of the lake. This site is also part of Yangzhou’s “Twenty-Four Scenic Spots,” known as “Spring Terrace under the Moon.”

The term “Xichun” originates from Laozi’s saying, “The multitude rejoices, as if ascending the Spring Terrace.” It refers to the bustling scene of crowds coming and going in front of Xichun Pavilion. Yu Dafu once commented that the moon over the Twenty-Four Bridges is one of the four great autumn sights in southern China. Legend has it that Yangzhou salt merchants once held a birthday celebration for Emperor Qianlong here, hence this spot is also known as “Spring Terrace Birthday Celebrations.”

The architectural style around Xichun Pavilion embodies the grand and magnificent opulence of imperial gardens. All structures feature green glazed tiles, which complement the vermilion doors, windows, and columns.
