Yangshan, anciently known as “Anyang Mountain,” earned its name from King Wu of Zhou, who enfeoffed Zhou Zhang’s youngest son as the Marquis of Anyang in Wuxi, where he was later buried on this mountain. Located just 15 kilometers from Wuxi City, a renowned tourist destination in southern Jiangsu, Yangshan is traversed by the Xin-Chang Railway and the Xiyi Expressway. The area features four majestic hills with picturesque forests and valleys. Yangshan is world-renowned for its tens of thousands of acres of peach blossoms, ancient volcanoes that are hundreds of millions of years old, and millennia-old temples. Legend has it that during the late Yuan Dynasty, the region around “Bald-headed Yangshan” (present-day Anyang Mountain in Yangshan Town, Huishan District, Wuxi City) produced two prominent generals. Each built a castle on the western side of Yangshan, carving out their own territories and proclaiming themselves kings. The castle nearest to Yangshan was initially called Yin City (now the area around Yincheng Village in Yangshan Town), and its leader was General Mo Tian?. According to local oral tradition in the Yangshan area, Mo Tian? originally served under Zhang Shicheng but later, when Zhang submitted to the Yuan Dynasty, he was ordered to defend Wuxi Prefecture, using Anyang Mountain as his stronghold.

Nestled among the mountains, the scenery blends pastoral charm with timeless beauty, where ancient vibes meet modern allure, and mountain songs harmonize with fishermen’s calls—truly earning its reputation as a “unique gem of the Jiangnan region.” Today, Yangshan is a key scenic spot along the Taihu Lake tourist route, offering a variety of experiences including volcanic landform tours, historical site visits, folk culture exploration, and eco-agricultural tourism. The Yangshan Ecological Peach Blossom Land Scenic Area has been included in the “Wuxi Tourism Development Three-Year Action Plan,” and with its increasingly refined ecological environment and stunning landscapes, it welcomes visitors from all over the world.
