Huishan Wenchang Park

Wenchang Park is situated at the southern end of Yuxi Town in Huishan District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It lies adjacent to the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway to the south and the town government to the north. Established in 1988, the park spans 22,098 square meters and features a design that blends classical architecture with natural landscapes. Winding streams and picturesque scenery create a distinctive and serene ambiance. An 80-meter-long corridor surrounds the viewing area, and the entire park is lush with greenery, decorated with seasonal flowers, and filled with birdsong. The park houses the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, the Memorial Monument for Martyr Mi Wenhao, the Qingcheng Dao Society Revolutionary Site, the Sun Yefang Memorial Hall, the Dadun Fengfu Temple, as well as recreational and leisure facilities. A number of martyrs who fought bravely for the victory of China’s democratic revolution rest here. Each year, over 30,000 people from all walks of life visit to pay their respects to the revolutionary martyrs.

In April 2002, Wenchang Park was designated as a “Wuxi Patriotic Education Base” by the Wuxi Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. The “Sun Yefang Memorial Hall,” whose plaque was inscribed by former PRC President Yang Shangkun, displays the revolutionary journey of the renowned economist and founder of the Wuxi regional Party organization, along with his personal belongings, writings, and artifacts used during his lifetime—serving as a vivid patriotic education resource. Former Shanghai Mayor and President of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits Wang Daohan, as well as former Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Guodong, have visited and paid their respects here.

In the southwestern corner of the park stands the ancient Dadun Fengfu Temple, believed to have been built during the Song Dynasty. It is a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit. The Ming Dynasty-era Wenchang Pavilion is perched atop Fengfu Mountain and serves as a landmark of Yuxi Town. In 1993, the Yuxi Town government allocated 380,000 yuan to restore the Wenchang Pavilion, attracting a constant stream of visitors. To better serve the public good, in October 2003, the Yuxi Town Party Committee and government invested millions of yuan in constructing the Bronze Pavilion Square south of the park. It was completed and opened to the public on June 28, 2004. Wenchang Park and Bronze Pavilion Square now form a unified area covering over 80 acres, providing a pleasant leisure destination for local residents.

Wenchang Park boasts a long history and beautiful scenery, with rare flowers, exotic trees, mountain views, and lake reflections complementing each other. The park features secluded paths, including the Memorial Pavilion for Madam Guo and Madam Li, as well as the Memorial Pavilion for Madam Wang. These pavilions house handwritten inscriptions by 33 high-ranking officials and notable figures from the Republican era, including Li Zongren, Lin Sen, Yu Youren, Feng Yuxiang, Zhang Xueliang, Bai Chongxi, Sun Ke, Chen Lifu, Chen Guofu, Kong Xiangxi, and Shao Lizi. It is one of the best-preserved sites in China featuring the largest collection of historical celebrity calligraphy.
