Luxu Bridge

Luxu Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Jiangsu Province.

In Luxi District, Huishan, there is a bridge called Luxu Bridge — an ancient bridge with over 800 years of history.

The name of Luxi District comes from Luxu Bridge. This ancient bridge, over 800 years old, stands on the old street. According to records: in the early Southern Song Dynasty, Lu Yu from Zhejiang led his son Lu Xu to the Jiangnan water town at the foot of Anyang Mountain, where they cleared land, planted tea, opened teahouses, and developed tea culture.

At that time, their residence was in what is now Luxi Town. To go to Anyang Mountain to clear land and plant tea, they had to go around a small river, which was very inconvenient. After Lu Yu passed away, Lu Xu built a single-arch yellow-stone bridge over the river and named it Luxu Bridge.

The surface of Luxu Bridge is inscribed with the phrases: “National peace and tranquility” and “Favorable weather for crops.” On both sides of the bridge are couplets reading: “Duck heads rise with spring, greens soak the willow dike; eagle teeth line the clouds, reds blur the bridge bank.” Luxu Bridge has now been designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Wuxi City.

In 2019, Luxu Bridge was included in the eighth batch of cultural heritage sites protected by Jiangsu Province.
