Lu’s Residence

Lu’s Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Lu’s Residence (Former Residence of Lu Dingyi), a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province, is located in Luxiang, Xizhang, Wuxi. It is the birthplace of the proletarian revolutionary Lu Dingyi. The old residence has been open to the public since its restoration in 2006. To better protect and utilize this cultural heritage, the residence is set to undergo comprehensive upgrades. It is reported that a recent expert consultation meeting on the maintenance and preservation of Lu’s Residence has been held, marking the official launch of its restoration and conservation efforts.

When people in Wuxi mention Lu Dingyi’s former residence, many think of the group of late Qing and early Republican-era buildings located on Xiqianxi Street, Xihetou. However, there is another former residence of Lu Dingyi in Xizhang, Wuxi, listed on the cultural relics protection register of Jiangsu Province as “Lu’s Residence (Former Residence of Lu Dingyi).” In 1906, Lu Dingyi was born and spent his early childhood here. Lu’s Residence is situated at No. 4, Laoluxiang, Tianyi Community, Yaqiao Subdistrict, Huishan District. Facing south and built along a north-south axis, the white-walled, black-tiled structure is a typical example of traditional dwellings in the Jiangnan water town area. The residence was originally built during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era, and over time has undergone damage and partial renovation.

On December 19, 2011, the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province designated it as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.
