Furong Mountain Shuangshaxian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Furong Mountain Shuangshaxian Temple (Furong Chan Temple) is located on Furong 3rd Road, Furong Mountain, Dongbeitang Town. The original Shuangshaxian Temple once had three temple complexes: at the upper mountain’s Longjing Peak, the Jade Emperor Hall and Sanmao Hall were the main structures; at the lower mountain’s Taiyi Peak, the Yanwang Temple and Xianji Temple were the primary ones; and at the mountain’s foot, the Yanfu Temple was the main one. The present-day Furong Chan Temple is a continuation of the ancient Xianji Temple and the ancient Yanfu Temple. According to the *Wuxi County Annals* compiled by Wang Renfu in the Yuan Dynasty, during the reign of King Mu of Zhou (10th century BC), the Wuxi area belonged to the Xu Kingdom. The ruler, King Yan, governed benevolently and cared for the people. At that time, Wuxi suffered a severe drought, and King Yan exempted the people from taxes and distributed grain as disaster relief. The people of Wuxi, grateful for King Yan’s kindness, built a temple on Furong Mountain to enshrine him—this became the ancestral temple of Furong Mountain.

Furong Chan Temple was destroyed twice in history. The first destruction occurred at the hands of the Taiping Rebellion, and the second time, the remaining structures were ruined during the Great Leap Forward.

After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee, with the increased attention from the Party and government toward religious work, in 1997, with the approval of the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, Furong Mountain was designated as a religious activity site. In 2004, it was renamed Furong Mountain Shuangshaxian Temple. The reconstruction of Furong Mountain Shuangshaxian Temple integrates the characteristics of the original three temple complexes on Furong Mountain, restores parts of the Eighteen Scenic Spots of Furong Mountain, and is distinguished by solemn Buddha statues and magnificent architecture. It delves deeply into Buddhist cultural heritage and has been developed into a miniature, garden-style temple.
