Rujing Hall

Rujing Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Wuxi City.

Rujing Hall (Memorial Hall of Mr. Tang Wenqi), located on the shores of Taihu Lake, is managed by the Taihu Lake Turtle Head Isle Scenic Area. The memorial villa was built in 1934 through fundraising initiated by Zhang Tingjin, Hu Duanxing, and others from Jiaotong University to celebrate the 70th birthday of former university president Mr. Tang Wenqi. It was named after Mr. Tang's literary name, “Rujing Hall,” and was officially completed in 1935. In 1988, Rujing Hall underwent renovation. The renovated hall now houses the “Memorial Hall of Mr. Tang Wenqi” and the “Memorial Room of Madam Yu Qingtang,” the latter being dedicated to the renowned social educator and eldest daughter-in-law of Mr. Tang Wenqi. The two exhibition spaces display the life stories, manuscripts, photographs, publications, personal belongings, and calligraphy works by notable figures such as Qian Weichang, Zhou Gucheng, Lu Dingyi, and Deng Yingchao, all related to Mr. Tang and Madam Yu. Additionally, there is a “Jiaotong University Special Exhibition Area” featuring photos and documents about Mr. Tang Wenqi’s connection with Jiaotong University. In 1986, Rujing Hall was listed as a “Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Wuxi City.” In 2010, the management office of Turtle Head Isle Scenic Area renovated and reorganized the exhibition layout of the memorial hall. The revamped memorial hall reopened to the public with a completely renewed look, becoming a major cultural landmark and heritage site by the shores of Wuli Lake.
