Former Site of Xuzhou Women's Bible Institute

The former site of the Xuzhou Women's Bible Institute is a cultural heritage protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The former site of the Xuzhou Women's Bible Institute is located at No. 57 Wangling Road, Xuzhou. In 1922, the Southern Presbyterian Church of the United States built three Western-style villas here for use by American missionaries such as Ernest P. Bryan. In 1928, Mrs. Bryan, Charlotte Bryan, founded the Women's Bible Institute. In May 1938, when Japanese invaders occupied Xuzhou, the Bryans set up a refugee protection zone here, earning them the title "the Raoul Wallenberg of Xuzhou." In 1948, Charlotte returned to the United States, and the institute ceased operations. Today, one missionary villa and one chapel remain.

In March 2019, the former site of the Xuzhou Women's Bible Institute was included in the eighth batch of cultural heritage protection units of Jiangsu Province.
