Fish Egg Mountain Anti-Japanese War Memorial
The Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Memorial is a patriotic education base.
The village of Yuzishan was originally the site of the ordnance repair workshop of the 18th Sub-district of the Jidong Military Region during the Anti-Japanese War. Before liberation, there was an arms factory. According to the *Pinggu County Literary History* and Jidong historical records, this arms factory connected to Pinggu, Sanhe, and Jixian in the south, and to Chengde, Xinglong, and Miyun in the north, serving as a secret passage during the war. The factory was responsible for repairing—and transporting military supplies—and played a significant role during the Anti-Japanese War. To commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives here and this important chapter in history, the Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Memorial was built at the entrance of the East Beijing Grand Canyon scenic area.
In October 2000, the Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Memorial was designated as a “Beijing Patriotic Education Base” and a “National Defense Education Base” by the Beijing Municipal People’s Government and the National Defense Education Office. On July 12, 2001, the Beijing Municipal People’s Government announced the Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Site (1938) as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit in the sixth batch.
The memorial exhibition covers an area of 400 square meters. It is based on the historical facts of the Anti-Japanese War in the Jidong region and uses the resistance efforts of the people in Pinggu and surrounding areas as a narrative thread. Nearly 100 revolutionary relics and over 200 precious historical photographs are displayed. The museum also showcases inscriptions by Jiao Ruoyu, a former leader of the wartime border region, as well as nine valuable historical relics donated by Li Yunchang, former commander of the Jidong Military Region, including a shirt, scarf, and photos from the wartime period used at the Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Memorial.
Through a large number of artifacts, photographs, and textual descriptions, the Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Memorial vividly illustrates the struggle of the Chinese military and civilians under the leadership of the Communist Party of China—fighting against oppression, invasion, and for liberation. On the right wall of the memorial is engraved the roll of honor listing the names of 555 revolutionary martyrs from Pinggu who died in the Anti-Japanese War. Since its opening, the memorial has received 150,000 visitors from all walks of life for revolutionary traditional education.
