Ancient books say that after Gun died, he turned into a three-legged turtle and lived in this pool. As a result, whenever the weather turned gloomy and rainy, the water in Jiquan would emit a foul stench. On Yushan Mountain there is also a rock called Sanfengshi, about 10 meters high, with three neat fissures on its surface, said to be the marks left by Emperor Shun when he tested his sword before killing Gun. Introduction The oldest existing scenic spot in Donghai County is the famous Yushan Mountain. It is located in the northwest of Donghai County. Legend has it that in ancient times, as recorded in history, catastrophic floods ravaged the land, bringing misery to the people. Emperor Yao ordered Gun to control the floods. Gun tried to stop the water by continuously building higher and higher levees, which caused the riverbed to become increasingly silted up. Eventually, the levees collapsed and the waters burst forth, drowning countless lives. As a result, Gun was executed by Emperor Shun on Yushan Mountain. Gun’s son, Yu, took over his father’s mission to control the floods. He adopted a method of channeling the waters and devoted himself entirely to the task, passing by his own home three times without entering. Eventually, he successfully diverted the floodwaters into the sea, allowing the people to live in peace and prosperity. Later, Yu succeeded Shun as emperor.
