In addition to responding to energy-saving and carbon-reduction efforts, and encouraging the public to take low-carbon bike trips to explore the East Coast, the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has specially organized the “2012 Brave the East Coast Bike Super Rider Self-Challenge” event, warmly inviting people from around the world to ride together in Jialulan Recreation Area, Taitung, on April 1, 2011 (101), to personally experience the beautiful charm of the East Coast. To encourage more cyclists to dare to challenge themselves, the East Coast Administration has specifically planned a “100K Gold Rush Competition” category, offering attractive prize money, challenging participants to become the first $uper Rider on the East Coast!
The East Coast National Scenic Area Administration of the Tourism Bureau has long been committed to promoting the East Coast as the most ideal region for cycling. After years of development, it has earned a gold-standard reputation and is highly recommended by international travel magazine Lonely Planet as a bike destination, as well as being voted by cyclists worldwide as one of the green corridors they most want to visit. The 2012 Brave the East Coast event will start from the driftwood art sanctuary—Jialulan—and return at Sanciandao. In addition to the 100K Gold Rush Competition category, there is also the 100K Wind-Chasing Fun Challenge, featuring routes of 100 km and 200 km respectively, so that the general public can also join in the fun on April 1 and jointly experience the internationally renowned beautiful green corridor of the East Coast.
The newly launched 100K Gold Rush Competition category is divided into individual age groups and an elite group, with prize money ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$1,000. Xie Shengyan, who won the Taitung Super Triathlon, spoke highly of the stunning scenery of the East Coast, saying it is definitely worth a personal visit. Registration for the event is open until March 23. Both domestic and international cyclists are welcome to join the challenge on the East Coast. There is a limit of 600 participants per category, so sign up quickly before spots run out!

Visitors who participate in any of the 15 routes planned by the East Coast Administration have a chance to win cash prizes ranging from NT$500 to NT$5,000. The “2012 Brave the East Coast Bike $uper_Rider Self-Challenge” is the third route in the Travel Expert Recruitment Campaign. Cyclists who register for the event will have their information automatically entered by the East Coast Administration, easily earning points for the route. Those with smartphones can also download the “East Coast Mobile APP” to complete the route certification and earn another set of points. By traveling through Hualien and Taitung, not only can cyclists compete for the 100K prize money, but they can also become East Coast travel experts, earn the “East Coast Honorary Friend Card,” receive cash rewards, and enjoy discounts at over 20 local businesses.
