The Moshan Stone Carvings are a protected cultural relic site of Lianyungang City.

Moshan Stone Carvings

Located on an isolated massive rock in the middle of the southern gentle slope of Moshan Mountain, approximately 8.5 kilometers southwest of Shilianghe Town, Donghai County, Lianyungang City. The rock is rectangular in shape, composed of gneissic granite, standing 300 cm high, 250 cm wide, and 170 cm thick. The eastern side of the rock is relatively flat, with inscriptions carved in intaglio. The carved surface is 170 cm wide, 223 cm high, with characters measuring 11×14 cm. The text is arranged vertically, starting from the right, comprising a total of 71 characters.

Through content analysis, the Moshan Cliff Inscriptions document how the local feng shui was disrupted due to stonecutters quarrying rocks indiscriminately, as well as the measures taken against those who continued such activities afterward. The inscription is dated to the first month of the 20th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1894). This carving holds significant historical value for the study of ancient environmental protection awareness in Lianyungang City.

It was designated as part of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units of Lianyungang City in 2010.

Protected Area:

Currently centered around the platform between the main and secondary peaks of Moshan, extending elliptically in all directions (164 meters east-west and 253 meters north-south).

Construction Control Zone:

A 50-meter buffer zone surrounding the protected area (approximately 269 meters east-west and 353 meters north-south).

Shilianghe Town: The former Nanchen Township and Shilianghe Town were abolished and merged to form the new Shilianghe Town. After the adjustment, the town covers an administrative area of 103.6 square kilometers, with a total population of 63,000, administering 24 village committees. The town government is located at the original site of the Shilianghe Town government.

Shilianghe Town is located in the northernmost part of Donghai County, 32 kilometers south of the county seat, bordering Linshu County of Shandong Province to the west, and sharing the Xinshu River as a boundary with Ganyu County to the north.
