Songdun Site

The Songdun Site is a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

The Songdun Site is located in Sanlian Group, Songdun Village, Jinnan Town. In 1986, after extensive research by archaeology experts, it was identified as an early Western Zhou Dynasty site. The site is an oval-shaped earthen mound, measuring 87 meters from east to west, 95 meters from north to south, and standing nearly 6.5 meters high, covering an area of over 8,200 square meters with a cultural layer about 2 meters thick. Common surface finds include red clay pottery, gray pottery, and black-glazed pottery fragments, with identifiable shapes such as li tripods, jars, and bowls. The Songdun Site is one of the larger Western Zhou Dynasty sites in the hilly region of our county and holds significant scientific value for studying the local Western Zhou culture and history. To strengthen the protection of the site, it was listed as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit in January 1989, elevated to a Huai’an municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit in April 2006, and a protection stele was erected in June of that year. In December 2011, it was approved as a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit by the Jiangsu Provincial Government.
