Kinmen’s “Clam Season” Kicks Off – Experience the Beauty of Sandy Beach Ecology

Summer vacation is the peak travel season, and various regions are rolling out a series of major events. In the outlying island of Kinmen, the Kinmen County Government, together with the Hujing Township Office and the Jinning Township Office, has launched the “2013 Vibrant Kinmen Maritime Style – Hujing Beach Clam Season.” A variety of fun activities are held along the beautiful sandy shores, showcasing the island’s maritime culture, unique military heritage, and the beauty of clam ecology.

The event runs from July 6 to August 4, spanning a month, and features a lively and diverse program, including the Kinmen-Xiamen Sea Area Swim Relay Open, open-sea long-distance swimming, a battle of the bands competition among performers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong, Kinmen Liquor Night, Indigenous People’s Harvest Festivals from both sides of the Strait and Hong Kong, a barbed wire maze, a water park for children, beach recreation activities, large-scale sand sculpture displays, and net fishing experiences – totaling over 30 different events.

The event is divided between two venues. At the Houhu venue, there is a series of summer beach fun activities such as beach volleyball, free-to-use beach game equipment, and creative sand sculptures by Taiwanese sand sculpture teams. Participants also have the chance to enter a lucky draw for major prizes including round-trip air tickets to Hokkaido, Japan, a 50-inch LCD TV, and round-trip tickets to Kinmen.

At the Chenggong venue, there will also be performances by artists such as Dai Ailing, Wang Hong’en, and Nicky Wu, as well as a Clam Cup Sand Sculpture Competition, a beach dodgeball tournament, a Clam Season Tourism Market, and an ice-eating contest, making for an exciting and entertaining program.
