While most people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with family barbecues and moon viewing, in Kinmen, everyone is gripping a pair of dice as “dice games” are enthusiastically held throughout the streets and lanes. The unique local Mid-Autumn event in Kinmen—“throwing dice for the top scholar’s cake”—will run from tomorrow (1st) to September 30th. Tomorrow’s opening ceremony at Jinhu Basketball Court in Jinhu Township will feature a hundred tables for the public and tourists to experience. During the event period, townships such as Lieyu, Jinsha, Jincheng, Jinning, and Jinhu will host “prefectural-level” township competitions. The finals on September 28th by Jincheng Railway Station will be divided into metropolitan and palace examinations, with the annual top scholar winning a car.

This year’s top scholar dice game also features interactive game booths at various township events, consisting of four challenge levels. Players can win prizes for each level they pass, and those who score the top scholar can participate in the finals on September 28th. During the event, visitors to any Kinmen shop displaying a Mid-Autumn top scholar dice banner can join the dice experience and enjoy special offers from each store. Additionally, an online and mobile app-based dice game has been launched. From now until September 23rd, each person can play the dice game online 10 times per day. The first 300 top scholars will receive a “dice game pack”—a Kinmen specialty item.Additionally, 50 “online top scholars” will be randomly selectedto travel to Kinmen and participate in the finals.

In addition, Quanzhou TV will head to Kinmen tomorrow (1st) to present three cultural performances for the Mid-Autumn top scholar dice event. The program includes Hokkien song performances, original dialect comedy skits, the famous Quanzhou marionette show “Zhong Kui Drunk,” classic plays of Gaojia opera, and large-scale magic performances by a renowned magician from Fujian.
