Mid-Autumn Dice Game for "Top Scholar" Title Kicks Off in Kinmen This Weekend

While many celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with family barbecues and moon viewing, in Kinmen, people gather with dice in hand and the “Dice Game Tournament” takes place vigorously in every corner. The unique local Mid-Autumn event of Kinmen — the “Top Scholar’s Cake Game” — will be held from tomorrow (the 1st) to September 30th. The opening event at the Jinhu Basketball Court in Jinhu Township tomorrow will feature a hundred tables for locals and tourists to experience. During the event period, townships such as Lieyu, Jinsha, Jincheng, Jinning, and Jinhu will host “prefectural examination”-themed township competitions. The grand finals on September 28th by the Jincheng Railway Station will include both the “metropolitan examination” and the “palace examination,” with the annual Top Scholar winner receiving a car.

This year’s Top Scholar’s Cake Game also features interactive game booths at various township event sites, with a total of four challenge levels. Players can win prizes for each level completed in the dice game, and those who become the Top Scholar can also participate in the finals on September 28th. During the event, visitors to shops in Kinmen displaying Mid-Autumn Top Scholar’s Cake banners can join the dice game experience and receive special offers from each shop. Additionally, an online and mobile app-based “Online Dice Game” activity has been launched. From now until September 23rd, participants can roll the dice online up to 10 times per day, and the top 300 Top Scholars will receive a Top Scholar’s Bag — a Kinmen specialty item.From the “online Top Scholars,”50 winners will be selected to travel to Kinmen and participate in the finals.

In addition, Quanzhou Television will also head to Kinmen tomorrow (the 1st) to present three cultural performances for the Kinmen Mid-Autumn Top Scholar’s Cake event. The program includes Hokkien song performances, original dialect comedy skits, the famous Quanzhou Marionette Drama “Zhong Kui Drunk,” classic scenes from Gaojia Opera, and large-scale magic performances by a renowned magician from Fujian.
