Kaizhuang Site

The Kaizhuang Site is a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage site.

The Kaizhuang Site is located in Kaizhuang Village, northwest of Qindong Town.

Covering an area of over 30,000 square meters, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government in 2002. In 1995, local villagers accidentally discovered some stone tools and pottery shards while digging a river. With approval from the provincial Department of Culture, experts in cultural relics from Yancheng City and Dongtai City organized rescue excavations. During the excavation, not only were remains such as wells, postholes, and ash pits used by Neolithic humans discovered, but also stone axes, jade chisels, bone arrowheads, and hundreds of pottery items were unearthed. Among the intact artifacts were over 40 pieces including pottery tripods, dou (food vessels), jars, and plates. The Kaizhuang Site provides a new benchmark for studying the social structure, economic framework, and cultural development of the Neolithic Age in our city, and pushes the historical timeline of Dongtai back more than 2,000 years. The site is currently the only “Jiangsu Major Heritage Sites List” nomination project in the Yancheng area. The Huangniangmiao Ancient Well Site was discovered in 2010 near the Taidong River to the northwest of Qindong Town government. The site includes an ancient well and a large number of fragments such as tiles, bowls, plates, and tripods, which were identified by cultural relic experts from Yancheng City and Dongtai City as dating back to the Tang and Song dynasties.

On October 22, 2002, the Kaizhuang Site was announced as part of the fifth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage sites.

Qindong Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Dongtai City. It was established as Qindong Township in 1957, upgraded to a commune in 1959, reinstated as a township in 1983, and became a town in 1987. Located in the southeastern part of the city, it is 32 kilometers from the urban center. The town covers an area of 62.5 square kilometers and has a population of 45,000. ??
