It also boasts an impressive collection of ancient and modern calligraphy steles and ink works, making it a cultural landmark with distinct Ming and Qing architectural styles.

Song Cao (1620–1701), courtesy name Chen, art name She Ling, served as a Zhongshu official during the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty before resigning to live in seclusion, supporting his mother by selling vegetables. Song Cao lived as a recluse in the mountains and forests, was well-read and erudite, but repeatedly declined official invitations. He had a passion for travel, excelled in calligraphy, and was skilled in poetry and prose. His extant works include stone engravings of regular and cursive calligraphy, Calligraphy Aphorisms, and the poetry collection Collected Poems from Huiqiu Hall. He is the only renowned calligrapher from ancient Yancheng recorded in historical texts.
