Xixi Taishan Huguo Chan Temple

Huguo Chan Temple is located south of Yanci River in the western suburbs of Dongtai City, beneath Tongsheng Bridge, adjacent to Haichunxuan Pagoda. The temple was built during the Jiading era (1208–1224) and renovated during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It was destroyed by fire during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty but was later rebuilt through donations initiated by Magistrate Yang Tingjun. The temple complex features grand architecture, with the Heavenly King Hall, the Hall of Mount Tai’s King (Dongyue), and the Hall of Kṣitigarbha as its three main halls. The side halls house temples dedicated to the Ten Kings of Hell, Guan Yu and Yue Fei, Hua Tuo, Shennong, and Lu Ban, hence the saying “one temple, five shrines.”
