North Building

North Building

Located on the campus of Yancheng Middle School in Yancheng City. Built in 1931. In 1940, - and Chen Yi once lived and worked here, and the Huazhong General Command Conference was held here. In early 1941, it became the headquarters of the Fifth Branch of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University. The school operated here for about two years, training over 3,000 military and political cadres. The North Building is a two-story structure with a mixed brick-and-wood design, featuring a concave-shaped floor plan with 10 rooms on each of the upper and lower floors.

Today, the North Building has been turned into an exhibition hall for the history of the Fifth Branch of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University, with the name inscribed by Xue Muqiao. The exhibition is divided into three sections: the lobby features a bust of Chen Yi, flanked by inscriptions from -, Chen Yi, Huang Kecheng, and Zhang Aiping. The second exhibition room introduces the history of the Fifth Branch, while the third covers the history of the General Branch and its subordinate Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Branches.

On the lawn in front of the North Building stands a bust of -, with the following inscription by - for the Fifth Branch of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University engraved on its base:
