Anfeng Ancient Town is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Anfeng Ancient Town is located in the central-western part of Dongtai City. The Coastal Expressway and the Xinchang Railway run through it, while National Highway 204 and Provincial Highway 333, as well as the Chuanchang River and Tongyu River, intersect here. The town covers an area of 71.2 square kilometers, with a built-up area of 10 square kilometers and a population of 54,000. On June 9, 2007, the Ministry of Construction and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage approved and awarded Anfeng Town the title of the third batch of “China’s Famous Historical and Cultural Towns.”

Anfeng Ancient Town emerged during the Neolithic Age and was originally known as Xiaotao Pu. It entered historical records during the early Han Dynasty for salt boiling, became the Xiaotao Salt Field during the Southern Song Dynasty, and was called the Anfeng Salt Tax Office in the Yuan Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it flourished as a salt market and ranked first in tax contributions among the ten key salt fields in Huainan. Today, it thrives on efficient agriculture, poultry and livestock farming, textiles, and biopharmaceuticals. The town currently preserves four historic streets, 38 ancient lanes, and over 30 Ming and Qing dynasty buildings. With the ancient South Stone Bridge Street as the central axis and the Bao Family architectural complex as a highlight, the over 150,000-square-meter ancient building complex showcases a unique blend of Shanxi–Huizhou merchant styles and local Huaiyi architectural traditions. Anfeng Ming-Qing Ancient Street is located at the southern end of Anfeng Old Street and consists of two sections: Nan Shi Qiao Street and Hebei Yu Street. It is the best-preserved part of Anfeng’s “Seven-Mile Long Street.” Stretching nearly 500 meters in total, the middle section retains its original stone-paved road. To the east of the street lie seven lanes, and within the district are 13 exhibition venues, including the provincial cultural heritage site – Bao Family Mansion, the Yancheng municipal cultural heritage site – Wu Family Ancestral Hall (the former residence of Wu Jiaji, a salt merchant poet from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties), the former residences of notable figures, the painter Ge Xianglan’s home, the Chairman Mao Badge Memorial Hall, the Chinese Cigarette Label Museum, the Straw Painting Exhibition Hall, the Salt Tax Office, and the ancient theater. Anfeng Ancient Town receives over 800,000 visitors annually.
