Shanghai International Circuit is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Shanghai International Circuit is located in the northeast of Anting Town, Jiading District, approximately 7 kilometers from the center of Anting Town. It borders the Zhangpu River to the east, Songhe Road and East Ring Road to the west, Bao’an Highway to the south, and the Suburban Ring Expressway to the north, covering a total area of about 5.3 square kilometers. The design of Shanghai International Circuit inherits and develops China’s traditional culture and historical heritage. The stylized Chinese character “上” (meaning “up”) shaped track embodies the meaning of striving for excellence and performing brilliantly. Through its shape, color, and materials, the circuit perfectly combines innovative interpretation with the extension of tradition. The main architectural complex—including the main grandstand, team pits, control tower, administrative tower, sky restaurant, and press center—represents the majestic and magnificent aspects of traditional Chinese culture. The two red pillars of the main grandstand and the corresponding twin towers are inspired by China’s traditional “gate” and the guardian stone lions on either side; the light-transmitting holes on the top of the grandstand are designed based on the Chinese lantern, with red and yellow as the main colors, symbolizing luck and strength. Another representative building is the team hospitality area, which draws inspiration from Shanghai’s Yu Garden. The hospitality area is like a peaceful and pleasant island in the bustling and fast-moving world, where drivers and staff can rest and recover their energy.

The speed and high technology embodied by racing cars, especially Formula One cars, are unparalleled by other sports. This is reflected in the ingeniously designed buildings. The dynamically changing press center and sky restaurant hover over the track like a pair of wings ready to take flight, and the choice of materials (shiny aluminum, glass, and steel) emphasizes the technological features.

The secondary grandstand canopy, consisting of 26 petal-shaped membrane structures called the “Giant Umbrella,” was designed by the German company TILKE, the designer of the “上” shaped track. The design is inspired by the delicate lotus leaves found in the water towns of southern China. It adopts the world’s most advanced membrane structure form to date, perfectly embodying the harmony of stability, reliability, and aesthetic beauty of the membrane structure canopy system. Each giant lotus petal has a surface area of about 750 square meters, with a maximum cantilever length of 24.3 meters. The lower supports consist of ten curved steel pipes holding up the 52-ton petal.

The total length of the Shanghai International Circuit F1 track is 5,451.24 meters, featuring 7 left turns and 7 right turns, with an average speed of 205 km/h. The longest straightaway is 1,175 meters, located between Turns T13 and T14, allowing a maximum speed of 327 km/h. In tight corners, drivers must brake down to 87 km/h, delivering the intense, thrilling, and exciting experience unique to motorsports. The track width ranges between 13–15 meters, generally 14 meters, and widens to a maximum of 20 meters at turns (Turns T14/T15).

Other distinctive track designs include: spiral-tightening turns (Turns T1 to T3), where the radius changes from 93.90 meters to 31.8 meters; spiral-widening turns (Turns T11 to T13), where the radius increases from 8.80 meters to 120.55 meters; and two sharp turns with curve radii of 18.70 meters (T6) and 10.07 meters (T14). The lowest point of the track axis has an absolute elevation of +4.50 meters, while the highest point is at Turn T2, with an absolute elevation of +11.24 meters. The maximum uphill gradient is 3%, and the maximum downhill gradient is 8%.
