The Lu Yanshao Art Museum was established on June 26, 1999, the 90th birthday of Mr. Lu Yanshao. It is located in Jiading, a historic and cultural town in Shanghai. Together with the Song Dynasty Confucian Temple, Fahua Pagoda, and the Ming Dynasty garden Qiuxia Pu, it forms a beautiful cultural landscape that highlights Jiading’s profound cultural heritage.

The museum covers an area of 6.5 mu, featuring a Chinese garden-style courtyard full of refined charm. The garden is lush with flowers and trees, graceful bamboos, and striking lake rocks. Corridors and winding bridges are interspersed throughout, complementing the Lu Yanshao Calligraphy Stele Corridor to create a picturesque scene filled with scholarly elegance. The total construction area of the museum is 2,319 square meters. The main building has two floors: the ground floor of the east wing is a comprehensive exhibition hall covering 400 square meters, suitable for various exhibitions including traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, and sculpture. The second floor houses the Lu Yanshao Masterpieces Exhibition Hall, with an area of 230 square meters, displaying the calligraphy and paintings of Lu Yanshao and restoring his final studio — “Wanqing Xuan” (“Evening Sunshine Studio”). The “Wanqing Xuan” displays Lu Yanshao’s stationery relics as well as some photos, manuscripts, and art albums related to his artistic activities. The second floor also features an academic lecture hall of over 100 square meters with complete facilities, suitable for high-level academic events. The west wing includes small exhibition halls, a gallery, and classrooms. The 47-meter-long Lu Yanshao Calligraphy Stele Corridor features more than 30 of his finest calligraphic works, showcasing the unique charm of his calligraphic art.

The Lu Yanshao Art Museum is a venue for collecting and researching the calligraphy and painting art of Lu Yanshao, promoting traditional Chinese culture, and hosting various high-level exhibitions and academic seminars. It also serves as a window for enriching community culture, advancing the development of both material and spiritual civilization, and facilitating cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
