Xishuiguan
Xishuiguan is a cultural heritage site protected at the district level in Jiading.
Xishuiguan is located at the western end of Renmin Street in Jiading Town and dates back to the Yuan Dynasty.
According to the Jiading County Annals from the Guangxu era: "In the 12th year of the Jiading reign during the Southern Song Dynasty (1219), Magistrate Gao Yansun built an earthen wall. In the 18th year of the Zhizheng reign during the Yuan Dynasty (1358), Zhang Shicheng sent General Lü Zhen to rebuild the wall using bricks and stones." By the Ming Dynasty, it had been repaired four times. From the Shunzhi to the Tongzhi eras of the Qing Dynasty, it was renovated seven more times. This shows that the original earthen wall no longer exists in its initial form. The current brick walls originated in the Ming Dynasty and were repeatedly maintained during both the Ming and Qing dynasties. Although the city wall was somewhat dilapidated but still largely intact in the early days after the liberation of Jiading, a lack of awareness about cultural heritage protection among the local government and residents at the time led many to participate in dismantling the wall’s bricks to build schools. As a result, the ancient city wall was reduced to scattered ruins, leaving only fragmented sections today. In more recent times, due to road widening and urban expansion, only the rebuilt West Gate and South Gate water gates, along with several remnants and foundations of the western and southern sections of the old city wall, remain. Xishuiguan is situated at the southern end of Renmin Street. It is a single sluice gate, and its length, width, and height are all smaller than those of Nanshuiguan. It was also reconstructed as a scenic spot later on.
In 2014, Xishuiguan was upgraded to a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Jiading Town Subdistrict: Before the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, an ancient coastline formed at the mouth of the Yangtze River, and human activity was already present along the Lianqi River (now the area around the Old West Gate Street). By the Liang Tianjian era (502–519), a settlement had formed. During the Tang Dynasty, the ancient town of Jiading was named Lianqi Market after the Lianqi River. On the ninth day of the twelfth month in the tenth year of the Jiading reign during the Southern Song Dynasty (January 7, 1218), the county seat was established and named Jiading after the reign title, a name that has continued to this day. In September 2000, Jiading Town was restructured from a town into a subdistrict.
In 1991, Jiading Town was listed by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government as one of Shanghai’s four major historical and cultural towns, well known for its rich cultural heritage... More details about Jiading Town Subdistrict ++
