Shanghai Aquatic Garden

The Aquatic Garden was jointly developed in December 2003 by municipal and district authorities, with planning and design by the Wuhan Aquatic Plant Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It primarily focuses on producing aquatic plant seedlings, and also offers functions such as sightseeing, fishing, aquatic plant research, and scientific studies on lake and pond ecological restoration systems. In 2006, it was designated as a science education base by the Minhang District Science and Technology Commission.

The Aquatic Garden boasts a unique geographical location. To the south, it borders the Jiangchuan Water Culture Museum and faces the Huangpu River. To the west, it connects with Nverjing, at the junction of two districts. In addition to being surrounded by rivers on the east, west, and south sides, a newly dug 2,000-square-meter pond has been added within the garden. The garden cultivates lotus, water lilies, irises, pickerelweed, thalia, cattails, calamus, and a newly introduced winter-growing variety — Siberian iris — which is currently under trial cultivation.
