On January 1, 2018, a large-scale international half marathon event that blended professionalism with fun and leisure commenced as planned at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Tennis Center in Shanghai. The event was co-organized by the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau, the People's Government of Minhang District, and the Communist Youth League Shanghai Committee, sponsored by Shanghai Bank, in strategic partnership with Beijing Enterprises Healthcare Group, with supporting sponsors including Red Bull, Zhanma, Wahaha, and Evian water. At the sound of the starting gun, over 5,000 runners set off full of vigor and enthusiasm. On the course, they demonstrated tenacity, achieved personal breakthroughs, and recorded every moment of perseverance and inspiration.

This major event comprised two parts: the half marathon (21.095 kilometers) and the mini run (5 kilometers). To ensure the smooth running of the marathon, relevant departments initiated overall planning as early as mid-November. Traffic police, community health service centers, and volunteers from various organizations expressed their willingness to forgo rest to serve as loyal guardians of the event. The diverse refreshment stations along the route and reliable logistical support made the event experience truly outstanding, earning widespread acclaim afterward. In terms of media coverage, Dragon TV Sports, Channel Young, Sina, NetEase, and Tencent were all present on-site for filming and interviews, cheering on the participants alongside us.

For this marathon, the organizers, from a practical standpoint, spared no effort in showcasing urban vitality, promoting sports culture, and enhancing the city’s image. Cute characters such as Doraemon and Baymax, heroic figures like Superman and Batman, and Japanese icons such as Pirate Luffy and Naruto were all present to lead the race, adding a great deal of entertainment value. Meanwhile, reflecting the international nature of the event, professional athletes from 14 countries and regions also participated, making it a truly mass-oriented and international half marathon. Top-performing runners in the event even earned direct entry qualifications for the 2018 Shanghai Marathon.

With 5,000 runners come 5,000 stories. A diverse group of participants of different ages, genders, and ethnicities helped create the perfect marathon. Alongside the race, the organizing committee also aimed to promote the concept of "green and low-carbon travel, fitness for all," encouraging the public to drive less and providing shuttle buses on the day of the marathon. Through these small changes, the hope is to build a "green, healthy, and vibrant" city.

As the exclusive title sponsor of this half marathon, Shanghai Bank aligned its “boutique bank” vision with the “boutique event,” with its core values of “utmost sincerity and integrity” perfectly matching the marathon spirit of “striving, perseverance, youth, and vitality.” Through professional management and refined operations, Shanghai Bank—known for its distinctive business characteristics and growing sustainability—has been repeatedly recognized by The Asian Banker magazine as “China’s Best Retail Bank in a City.”

Every marathon has a finish line, but the journey of life never stops. Thank you for the fulfilling experience at the Maqiao International Half Marathon, and we look forward to setting off on our next journey with you.
