Minhang District Museum

The Minhang District Museum serves as a science education base and a patriotic education base.

The Minhang District Museum has a total construction area of 4,200 square meters, with an exhibition space of 1,920 square meters. It houses two permanent exhibition halls: the “Maqiao Ancient Culture Exhibition Hall” and the “Chinese National Musical Instruments Exhibition Hall.”

The Maqiao Ancient Culture Exhibition Hall spans 430 square meters and displays over 200 artifacts excavated from the Maqiao site, representing three historical periods: the Liangzhu Culture, the Maqiao Culture, and the Spring and Autumn, Warring States, and Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties. Through innovative display methods, supported by three-dimensional models, touch-screen computers, and multimedia elements such as sound, light, and video, the exhibition vividly reconstructs the scene of how the ancient Maqiao people used wisdom and diligence to adapt to their living environment thousands of years ago. It also offers a dynamic interpretation of the primitive civilization along this ancient coastline in central Shanghai.

The Chinese National Musical Instruments Exhibition Hall covers 640 square meters and displays over 300 instruments from various time periods, totaling more than 100 types, categorized into four major series: aerophones, chordophones, idiophones, and membranophones. This fully demonstrates the classification and development of traditional Chinese musical instruments. The hall also exhibits a variety of instruments donated by renowned musicians from China’s modern history, as well as valuable historical documents. Using modern display techniques such as Pepper’s ghost imaging and models illustrating the acoustic principles of instruments, it blends ancient and modern instruments together, presenting the splendor of Chinese musical heritage in a vivid, multi-dimensional way.
