Qizhong Village in Maqiao Town is located in the southwest corner of Shanghai. Riding the wave of reform and opening-up, the villagers of Qizhong successfully forged a new path for rural development — "agriculture for stability, side businesses for startup, industry for prosperity, and culture for revitalization." It quickly became Shanghai’s first village with a billion-yuan output and was honored as “Shanghai Red Flag Unit,” “Shanghai Civilized Village,” and “National Model Village for Villagers’ Self-Governance,” among other titles. Leaders of the Communist Party of China and the state, including Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao, have visited the village and spoke highly of its achievements in reform and opening-up. The village now houses a 50-square-meter exhibition room showcasing over 100 photos of Party and state leaders during their visits to the village, as well as the history of Qizhong Village’s development. Admission is free for the public. The village also provides free venues and assistance for activities such as coming-of-age ceremonies and Young Pioneers or Communist Youth League induction ceremonies for teenagers.
