Nanzhang Catholic Church is a designated Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Nanzhang Catholic Church

Located at No. 50, Lane 485, Xiwen Road, Minhang District, (originally built in 1876, destroyed in 1899, and rebuilt in 1901. It features a brick-and-wood structure. The façade has a triangular gable, stacked pilasters, a central large and two smaller arched entrances, and simplified decorative details. Wings extend out with continuous arched colonnades that enclose a courtyard, making it the only church of its style in Shanghai.

Outside the colonnade, the combination of traditional Chinese tiles and Western-style architecture is a distinctive feature of the building.

On April 4, 2014, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government approved and announced Nanzhang Catholic Church as a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit (Hu Fu Fa [2014] No. 29).
