Located north of Gujiazi Village, Datun Township, Longtan District, Jilin City, the Houshi Mountain Site covers a total area of 450,000 square meters. It is a large-scale ancient village site dating back to the Bronze Age. The various slopes feature artificially terraced platforms, on which dozens of semi-subterranean dwelling sites are distributed. The southern slope of the eastern hill served as a burial ground, containing hundreds of stone coffin tombs. From 1976 to 1986, a total of 18 dwelling sites, 163 stone coffin tombs, and 5 ash pits were excavated, yielding a large number of artifacts. With both residential and burial areas, the Houshi Mountain Site is extensive in area and rich in content, making it a fairly typical representative of the Xituanshan Culture within the province. In-depth study of the site can not only further our understanding of the evolution of the Xituanshan Culture, but also provide ample physical evidence for further research into its economic structure, social organization, burial customs, and ethnic affiliation.
