The top choice for a picnic: a hidden lakeside gem with breathtaking mountain and water views

Taiwan has many beautiful hidden gems, and some lesser-known spots are often overlooked. This time, we’re introducing a spot located by the Dahan River, adjacent to the Shimen Reservoir in Longtan District, Taoyuan—a roughly 3.8-hectare area centered around a vast ecological lake and surrounding large lawn recreation areas, known as the Sankeng Nature Ecological Park. The entire Sankeng Nature Ecological Park was constructed using ecological engineering methods, with an abundance of native local flowers, plants, and trees planted to integrate the ecological park with the natural landscape. It also features amenities such as rest areas, pavilions, wooden arch bridges, and water play channels. Additionally, it connects to the Sankeng bicycle path, creating a leisure space for sports and fitness.

The surroundings of Sankeng Ecological Park, free from industrial development and close to the reservoir dam, offer picturesque lake and mountain scenery. The large green slope meadows by the pond create a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. In autumn, the Taiwanese flame trees add splashes of soft red to the lush green environment, making the scenery particularly beautiful.
