Sea East Eagle

Sea East Eagle, also known as Liuding Gate, draws its design inspiration from the “Sea East Eagle.” With an east-west span of 88 meters and a height of 19.5 meters, the grand gate features diagonally flaring walls that resemble a mighty eagle spreading its wings to welcome visitors from all directions. The overall structure adopts a triple-arched design arranged in an arc, consisting of six gates in total, making it a well-known landmark gate in the northeastern region.

Through the sculptures on the gate pillars and the reliefs on the gate walls, the gate unfolds a magnificent historical scroll. The relief on Gate No. 1 artistically recreates the majestic spirit and fearless fighting strength of Pangu and Nuwa as they transformed heaven and earth. The carvings on Gate No. 2 use vigorous, appropriately restrained, and flowing Chinese calligraphy art to present the beautiful legends and historical records of the prosperous Haedong Kingdom. Gate No. 3 features carvings of cultural icons deeply rooted in the region—Antu people and Laojunye. The Antu people were the earliest inhabitants of the Changbai Mountain area, while Laojunye is a heavenly deity with boundless powers and benevolent heart. The left and right gate pillars ingeniously integrate three elements: the traditional Chinese auspicious beast—the dragon-turtle, the sacred Buddhist symbol—the lotus, and the Bohai sacrificial architecture—the stone lantern pagoda. The pillars stand independently yet complement one another, while the stone slabs between them outline the silhouettes of a Buddhist temple and an eagle, achieving both visual beauty and a direct revelation of the rich cultural connotations of the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area, which encompasses Bohai culture, Buddhist culture, and the birthplace culture of the Manchu people.
