The ruins of Aodong City are located at Zhengjue Temple in the Liuding Mountain Tourism Development Zone, which is the largest Buddhist nunnery site in Asia and the biggest Buddhist temple in Northeast China. It is situated in the southeastern part of Dunhua City, on the northern bank of the Mudan River. The site consists of an inner and outer city, with the outer city having a circumference of approximately 2 kilometers. It is believed that Aodong City was the early capital of the Bohai Kingdom (698–926), hence the name "Old State." The head nun of the temple, Master Shifoxing, endured great hardships to raise funds for the temple’s reconstruction from both domestic and international donors.
