Xinkailing Forest Park

Xinkailing is located southwest of Dunhua, approximately 47 kilometers from the urban area. It is the southern section of Weihu Ridge and belongs to the Zhangguangcai Mountain Range. In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, a new road was built on the mountain, hence the name Xinkailing (literally "Newly Opened Ridge"). Additionally, because this ridge lies to the west of Dunhua city, it is also known as Xiling (Western Ridge).

The total forest reserve of Xinkailing Forest Farm spans nineteen thousand hectares, with the Sanjiliu Scenic Area alone accounting for eleven thousand hectares. Currently, there are still 2,000 hectares of pristine forest that remain undeveloped (only entered by the Japanese during their invasion of China). The forest reserve is vast, making it one of the largest forest farms in Dunhua. Normal logging operations are carried out every winter and spring, contributing a quarter of the total logging volume of Dunhua’s forests. The Xinkailing forest area features a wide variety of tree species, high-quality timber, rich biodiversity, and a large population of economically valuable flora and fauna with high yields. For example, in just one night, 18,000 yuan worth of forest frogs were sold from an 84-kilometer-long valley.
