Lotus Square

Lotus Square is located on the southwestern slope of Baiyun Primary School, covering an area of 13,000 square meters. The completed Lotus Square consists of three terraced lotus petal-shaped plazas at varying heights at the mountaintop and a small plaza halfway up the mountain that resembles a drifting cloud. The square derives its name from the unique geological formation of its location.

The construction project of Lotus Square involved the relocation of 4 households and 3 entities: Jinguang Heat Treatment Equipment, Xigang Chemical Raw Materials Company, and Baiyun Decoration Company, with relocation costs totaling 2.3 million yuan. The project officially commenced on December 23, 1999, with preliminary works such as debris removal and site clearing. A total of 2,400 controlled blasts were carried out, 1,600 square meters of site were cleared, and 192 machine-shifts of various types of equipment were used. On February 13, 2000, the civil engineering works officially began. To date, the project has removed 25,500 cubic meters of debris, filled in 23,000 cubic meters of earth, constructed 600 square meters of slope protection and surfacing, built 800 square meters (3,600 cubic meters) of retaining walls, laid 5 flights of stone steps totaling 180 meters, created one spring fountain and one cascading water feature along with a stream, built a 10-cubic-meter water storage tank, installed a 5-meter-high, 5-lamp high-mast light, and fabricated 300 square meters of artificial rockwork.
