The street parade performance troupe at the Taichung Musical Instruments Festival 10/6, music fills Houli

The 2012 Taichung Musical Instruments Festival will begin at 9:00 a.m. on October 6 at the Houli Horse Ranch in Houli District, Taichung City. In addition to a lively street parade, the 10:00 a.m. opening event will feature a performance by the Electric Three Kings, showcasing the currently popular horse-riding dance. It will also combine the Electric Three Kings, the Flower Spirits from the Taipei Flower Expo, and the Flower Century Band for a pop-electronic music ensemble. During the event periodthere will beperformances by groups and artists such as the Taichung Philharmonic Orchestra and Hakka singer Liu Shao-hsi, as well as side events like instrument factories and instrument hospitals. There will also be a garden stamp-collecting activity with prizes, and those who collect a full garden passport can join a major musical instrument lucky draw and other giveaways with nearly one million NT dollars in prizes.

During the October 6–7 event period, a total of three main stages, five major instrument experience zones, and 120 booths will be set up. In addition to pop-electronic music performances, the event will also feature performances by the Fanwang Film and Music Big Band from Shenkang District, Taichung City, playing classic old songs in Mandarin and Taiwanese, interpreting timeless hits by the late artists Teresa Teng and Fong Fei-fei. Other performances include the Taichung Philharmonic Orchestra, the Houli Makers Band, Hakka singer Liu Shao-hsi, and rising star Xu Fu-kai. With over 30 performances showcasing different instruments and formats, the event presents the diverse musical culture of Taiwan.

Additionally, the semifinals and finals of the 2012 Taichung International Saxophone Competition will be held on October 17 and 19 at the Formosan Regent Taichung - Yue Mei Branch in Houli District. Forty saxophone players from ten countries around the world will compete for a prize pool of one million NT dollars.
