After much anticipation, the MIDI Music Festival has finally crossed the Nanling Mountains and headed south all the way to Shenzhen. The 2013 Shenzhen MIDI Music Festival will be held from May 17 to 19 at the Universiade Center in Longgang District, Shenzhen.
In May, Shenzhen is a season where phoenix trees weigh heavy with blossoms and green mangoes adorn summer branches, when the scorching train of MIDI rolls into the heart of the South. It’s time for the rock fireworks of the South to ignite. It’s time for the flag of rock to be planted on Southern soil. It’s time for the voice of the South to echo across the MIDI grass. All of this is like the lyric by Wong Ka Kui: “Find the world of dreams deep in your heart, and eventually you will see it.” Time flows, and suddenly everything becomes clear.
This is a long-awaited joyful gathering, a rock feast long dreamed of.
We look forward to you playing the notes from your heart, showing off your rock skills, and lighting the torch of rock together with MIDI, conveying your passion and attitude to all music and MIDI lovers. The express train of the 2013 Shenzhen MIDI Band Competition has sounded its whistle, the horn has blown, the rock army is assembling, and everything is ready to go. In the coming month, we will select the winners through intense and fiery live competitions to take the stage at MIDI. Don’t hesitate — youth comes but once.
We will present the most dazzling stage for the best of you.

Competition Schedule: Online registration and preliminary auditions from April 1 – April 10
Semifinals: April 13 – 14 (Shenzhen Longgang Universiade Center)
Finals: April 20 (Kaisa City Plaza)
The competition will ultimately select 3 winning bands to perform at the 2013 Shenzhen MIDI Music Festival. Band members of the winning bands may, based on the band’s wishes and actual circumstances, receive travel expenses provided by the organizing committee and be arranged for a two-month training program at the Beijing MIDI Music School in 2013 (including accommodation and meals).
Eligibility and Submission Requirements:
Anyone living in China, regardless of nationality, gender, ethnicity, skin color, or religion, is welcome to apply as long as their band consists of 3 or more members and has relatively mature original works.

Selection Method:
Preliminary Auditions: The organizing committee will review original work demos collected nationwide, selecting 16 of the most compelling bands to advance to the semifinals based on style, maturity of the work, band potential, appeal, anticipated live performance qualities, lyrics, and other factors.
Two Semifinals: To be held over two days, April 13 and 14, at the Shenzhen Longgang Universiade Center. Eight bands will compete each day. A judging panel composed of the organizing committee and special guest judges will select 4 outstanding bands from each group to advance to the finals.
Preliminary Auditions: The organizing committee will review original work demos collected nationwide, selecting 16 of the most compelling bands to advance to the semifinals based on style, maturity of the work, band potential, appeal, anticipated live performance qualities, lyrics, and other factors.
Two Semifinals: To be held over two days, April 13 and 14, at the Shenzhen Longgang Universiade Center. Eight bands will compete each day. A judging panel composed of the organizing committee and special guest judges will select 4 outstanding bands from each group to advance to the finals.
Finals: On April 20 at the Shenzhen Longgang Universiade Center, 8 finalists will compete under the evaluation of the judging panel, and 3 winning bands will be selected to perform at the 2013 Shenzhen MIDI Music Festival.

After carefully filling out the application form, please compress it along with your audio demo and lyrics document, and send it to the official competition email: band@midischool.com.cn. Title the email “2013 I’m Going to MIDI Band Registration.”
Required submission materials include an audio demo of the original work (important note: the recording quality of the demo will directly affect the objective judgment of the judges—please take it seriously!), video link, lyrics, images, and the application form.
Before your work is selected by the organizing committee to participate in the live competition, you will need to sign an original work copyright commitment letter (any plagiarism discovered will result in immediate disqualification).
