Dalian Hope Square

Hope Square is located in the northwest corner of Labor Park in Zhongshan District, Dalian. Though not large in size, this may be precisely why it exudes a more refined charm compared to other squares in the city.

It is not round or square like other squares in Dalian. From above, it most closely resembles a triangle, and fittingly, it is made up of three very eye-catching green spaces. Each green area is neatly manicured, adorned with holly and small red and yellow flowers. A small path paved with square bricks cuts through one of the green spaces, allowing pedestrians to get closer to the lush greenery.

A giant bronze sculpture of a hand playing marbles aims at several colorful balls scattered on the ground, adding a playful and whimsical touch to the square and evoking nostalgic memories of childhood. Not far from there stands a spotless statue of a mother lifting her baby — the inspiration behind the square’s name: Hope.
