Dalian Lotus Mountain Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Lotus Mountain Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in downtown Dalian, situated in the heart of the world’s only lotus-shaped geological mountain range—Lotus Mountain—and surrounded by green hills on three sides. Its architecture combines traditional and modern elements, with green tiles and white walls complementing the natural scenery. The temple consists of a multi-purpose building, the main gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Yuantong Treasure Hall, and the Mahavira Hall. All the Buddha statues in the various halls were designed and personally supervised by the renowned arts and crafts master Mr. Li Hongcai, and are all carved from Xiuyan jade.

Lotus Mountain Temple is now a key Buddhist temple in Dalian and the only male monastic practice site in the urban area. The temple has four main buildings. Aside from the frontmost Guest-Receiving Hall, the other three halls are dedicated to the Four Heavenly Kings, Guanyin Bodhisattva, and Sakyamuni Buddha respectively. All the sculptures are made of jade, with some even inlaid with gold. As a newly constructed site, all facilities are state-of-the-art. The Sakyamuni Buddha statue in the Mahavira Hall stands 4.3 meters tall, making it the largest whole-body jade Buddha in China. Remarkably, the Buddha’s right hand features natural whorls and palm lines. The temple grounds also feature over a hundred square meters of white marble dragon steps, eighteen white marble dragon pillars, ten pairs of sunset-red jade mythical beasts, a four-meter-high black jade lion, and the Door Gods Heng and Ha, all shining brilliantly and exuding solemn dignity.

The main halls are spacious and tall, with tiled ceilings all the way up, bringing more brightness and less gloom compared to older temples. The surroundings are adorned with neatly arranged flowers, plants, trees, and sculptures, along with a pond where red carp swim and turtles rest, creating a truly serene and lively scene. The temple’s abbot, Venerable Master Yihui, was born in 1978. He became a monk at a young age and received full ordination in 1998 under the venerable Venerable Benhuan, a contemporary patriarch of Buddhism. In the same year, he entered the Hebei Buddhist Academy at Zhaozhou's Bailin Zen Temple under the guidance of Venerable Jinghui and inherited the Caodong Zen lineage. In 2005, he received transmission from Venerable Mingzhe of Qingdao's Zhan Mountain Temple, becoming a successor of the Tiantai school. Lotus Mountain Temple now resonates with morning bells, evening drums, and the chanting of Buddhist scriptures, bringing peace and happiness to all kind-hearted people through daily sutra recitations.
