The Old Dalian Folk Museum exhibits the folk customs of the Dalian area, briefly summarizing and documenting the city’s yesterday, the day before yesterday, and even the historical processes of the early, middle, and late parts of the last century.

Folk customs are a special kind of culture, naturally formed over a long period of history. Once formed, they possess a stability that transcends eras, thus becoming a social phenomenon passed down through generations. It may seem that these displayed artifacts and old photographs are somewhat distant from us. In order to piece history back together, we sincerely hope that visitors can understand and experience the atmosphere and life journey of that era through our exhibits or from the dreams of the past. From some remnants not known to everyone, find the quality of life that everyone needs.

Just as the famous line from the Jin Dynasty poet Tao Yuanming’s “Ode to Returning Home” goes, “What is to come can still be chased,” this reveals the true essence of human life and also the fundamental mystery and eternal belief of the ever-youthful ancient Chinese nation. The Old Dalian Folk Museum, as a window showcasing the folk culture of Dalian, opened on April 23, 2004, in the Golden Pebble Beach National Tourist Resort. The museum covers an area of 50,000 square meters, with an exhibition area of 15,000 square meters, and a total investment of over 2.7 million yuan. It was invested in and built by the Dalian Shuolin Antique Art Plaza, and is a comprehensive exhibition hall integrating Dalian’s modern politics, economy, culture and art, religious culture, and local customs.

The museum houses a collection of over 20,000 folk relics from Dalian, and includes nine major exhibition rooms: Entering Dalian from Qingniwa, Rural Charm, Old Urban Scenes, Religious Culture, Former Trades, Fishing Village, Urban Life, Farming Households, and Wellness Workshop. Each room is staffed with professional guides who provide detailed explanations covering all aspects of the lives of urban and rural residents in old Dalian, encompassing the folk legends and history of the city’s growth and development. It offers a true portrayal of the production and daily life of the people of old Dalian, and serves as a three-dimensional illustration of Dalian’s changes and progress. Since its opening, the Old Dalian Folk Museum has attracted numerous domestic and international visitors and has won widespread acclaim. Over the past three years, it has received tens of thousands of visitors from China and abroad.
