Ganjingzi Park

Dalian's Ganjingzi Park, located on Dongfang Road in Dalian's Ganjingzi District, is an open park with a beautiful environment and pleasant scenery. Beautiful Dalian is well known for its many parks, which serve as natural oxygen bars within the city, bringing fresh air to the bustling metropolis. These parks also form unique scenic spots of this coastal city, becoming leisure destinations for visitors from all over. Especially within the densely populated Ganjingzi District, Ganjingzi Park holds unique charm.

According to Dalian’s Local Chronicles, Ganjingzi Park was first built in 1955, originally named Friendship Park. The longtime residents of Ganjingzi called it “Garden Mountain.” From what I heard from my late father, back when the Japanese occupied Lüda (the then name for Dalian and Lushun), the area inside the “compound” in Ganjingzi was a very famous villa neighborhood. The southern hill of the “compound” formed the prototype of “Garden Mountain,” and there is historical evidence that the Japanese planted quite a few cherry blossom trees here.

“Garden Mountain” covers a fairly large area—it’s essentially a “tree-planting” hill, with no notable buildings in sight. The one thing that leaves a slight impression is a grand hall resembling a temple, featuring quite a bit of fine carving and relatively delicate craftsmanship. The largest feature is an open-air “dance hall” at the highest point of the park.
