Dalian Development Zone Cultural Square

The Development Zone Cultural Square broke ground in March 2003 and was officially completed in January 2006. Covering an area of 76,000 square meters with a construction area of 96,000 square meters, the project had a total investment of 630 million yuan. It was rated as a National AAA-level Tourist Attraction in 2010. It mainly consists of four functional areas: a library, a planning exhibition hall, a grand theater, and a civic cultural and leisure square.

The grand theater, as a venue for highbrow art, was officially opened to the public in January 2006, offering a year-round program of performances including opera, dance drama, stage play, children's theater, and symphony. The library, with a collection capacity of 1.3 million volumes, was officially opened in August 2007 and is free to the public throughout the year. The planning exhibition hall, known as the window of the city, was officially launched in September 2007. Using high-tech methods, it comprehensively showcases the past, present, and future of the development zone. Since its completion, the cultural leisure square has become an important venue for leisure and entertainment for local residents.

As a landmark building in the new district, the Cultural Square attracts an increasing number of citizens with its simple, elegant, modern, and stylish appearance, along with its refined and rich cultural content. It is also highly praised by both domestic and international visitors to the new district. The Cultural Square has become an important window for the new district’s opening-up, a symbol of the city’s image, and a true regional cultural center, with its influence and reputation continuously growing.
