Dalian Puguang Temple (Hongmen Temple)

Dalian Puguang Temple (Hongmen Temple) is a cultural tourism attraction.

Originally named Hongmen Temple, Puguang Temple is located in Miaogou Village, Sishili Village (Beile), Sanshilipu Town, Jinzhou District, Dalian City. It was first built during the Ming Dynasty and has a history of over 800 years. During the Japanese invasion of China, the temple was burned down by Japanese invaders. After the year 2000, with the dedication of lay Buddhist Wang Deyou and donations from devout Buddhists, the temple was rebuilt and renamed Puguang Temple.

After three years of intensive construction, the main structures including the Mahavira Hall, the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, the Mountain Gate Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, and the Sangharama Hall have been completed. Supporting facilities such as monks' quarters, dining halls, quarters for lay male and female devotees, and bathrooms have also been largely completed and are fully equipped.

The current Puguang Temple is grand in scale and magnificent in appearance, featuring five-story main halls and traditional Chinese architectural style. Other completed structures include the Xiangyun Pagoda and the outdoor Maitreya Buddha statue, while the ongoing construction includes a liberation pond. Currently, the temple complex spans an area of over 30,000 square meters, with a built-up area of more than 5,000 square meters. Many auspicious signs have emerged during the restoration process, notably the ancient well that had dried up for many years now flowing again with clear, sweet water.
