Dalian Jiulian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Jiulian Temple is situated on Jiulian Mountain in Shihé, Jinzhou District, Dalian. The area features uniquely beautiful peaks, undulating landscapes, a mountain adjacent to water, misty surroundings, and towering ancient trees. Legend has it that Jiulian Temple was first built during the prosperous Tang Dynasty (only early Ming stone Buddha statues, stele headers, and a stele erected during the temple’s reconstruction in the 14th year of the Daoguang reign are extant), boasting a history of nearly a thousand years.

During a time of national flourishing, the temple was reconstructed. The Mahavira Hall, Heavenly King Hall, Guanyin Hall, Kṣitigarbha Hall, and Dharma Protector Hall were built along the mountainside, complementing one another with a divine Buddhist ambiance. A thousand-year-old Chinese honey locust tree in the temple was burned to death during the Cultural Revolution but miraculously revived thirty-three years later when the temple was rebuilt. Its trunk resembles a dragon on the left and a phoenix on the right, embracing each other in a formation symbolizing harmony between the two mythical creatures — a marvel of nature.

The naturally grown pine trees on the mountain ridge, accompanied by the sounds of morning bells and evening drums, form the shape of a giant dragon lying atop the ridge — an incredibly magical and spectacular sight.

The temple is 65 meters wide from east to west and 200 meters long from north to south. It currently has six clergy members, with Venerable Master Shi Chuanzheng as the abbot. Devotees come from all over the country. Every year on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, the Buddha Bathing Festival is celebrated, and Jiulian Temple holds a three-day temple fair that attracts up to ten thousand worshippers daily.

Transportation by Bus: Take a bus from Dalian North Port Bridge Bus Station to Shihé.

Self-driving Route: Exit at Shihé on the Shenhai Expressway, turn right at the first intersection and proceed; or take National Highway 202 directly and turn right at the Shihé intersection.
