Morihong

Morihong, with its highest peak at an elevation of 1,020 meters, is the tallest mountain in Fushun. According to aerial photography from 1977 and the 1:50,000 contour map published in 1980, this mountain was referred to as "Moli Hong." The northern slope of Morihong is also one of the sources of the Chai River, the mother river of Tieling. At the summit of Morihong, at an altitude of 850 meters, there is a military base. This base was a strategic facility built in the early years of the founding of the People's Republic of China, intended to counter the former Soviet Union. Construction began in the 1950s, and after more than 20 years of development, it was put into use in the 1970s. Due to changes in the international situation and in Sino-Soviet relations, the base was abandoned in the 1980s. Today, some barracks and air-raid shelters still remain, while other items of potential value have been “repurposed” by local villagers. Only a few remnants of walls and ruins are left, but they still give a sense of the scale and grandeur the site once had.
