The snowboarding halfpipe competition of the 12th National Winter Games made its debut on the morning of the 9th at the Beidahu Ski Resort in Jilin. Although the compulsory event held that day was relatively less difficult, mistakes still occurred frequently on the field. In the end, Hu Yi from Fushun Team and Li Shuang from Harbin Team won the gold medals in the men's and women's events, respectively.
A total of 14 athletes competed in the women's compulsory event, among whom Cai Xuetong from Harbin Team was the strongest contender. However, mistakes were frequent among the competitors, and very few were able to complete all the compulsory maneuvers flawlessly. Cai Xuetong also fell after performing a flip during her second run, which affected her overall score, resulting in her only winning a bronze medal. In the end, Li Shuang and Wang Xuemei from Harbin Team secured the championship and runner-up spots with stable performances, achieving total scores of 59.5 and 55.6 points, respectively.
Compared to the women's competition, there were far fewer mistakes in the men's compulsory event. Hu Yi from Fushun Team claimed the top spot on the podium with a total score of 73.5 points. Zhang Yiwei and Xu Dechao from Harbin Team took the second and third places with scores of 72.7 and 67.3 points, respectively.
The most dramatic moment came during the women's competition. Zhai Yue, a 15-year-old athlete from the Urumqi Team, attempted a flip during her second run but, due to insufficient takeoff speed and height, the rotation became too strained, causing her to hit the edge where the lip and the wall of the halfpipe meet upon landing. She then struggled to her feet but immediately fell backward. On-site medical personnel quickly secured her on a stretcher and transported her to the competition’s first aid center by snowmobile. After an initial hospital examination, it was determined that Zhai Yue’s injuries were not severe, but as a precaution, she needed to be hospitalized for observation for three to four days and receive traction treatment.
Meanwhile, Huang Shiying from Fushun Team, who had been injured during training on the 7th with soft tissue damage to her lower back, missed the men's halfpipe compulsory event that day.
