Fushun Hailin Chan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Hailin Chan Temple is located in Hou’an Town, Fushun County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province, at the head of the Longmen Mountain Range of the Changbai Mountains in Liaoning. With the Reclining Buddha Mountain in front and Leader Peak behind, the She River, the source of the Hun River, meanders through the mountain like a jade ribbon. Nestled against mountains and beside water, the area boasts breathtaking scenery that captivates all who visit—truly a blessed land of outstanding people and spiritual energy. Drink from mountain springs, eat wild plants, chant Buddha’s name, sit in meditation, and contemplate koans—“Who is mindful of the Buddha?” This is a pure land on earth where one can be freed from afflictions, let go of worldly attachments, and transcend life and death.

The Northern Heavenly Buddha Land, the ancestral birthplace of the dragon’s rise, is a revered Dharma sound site, blessed by the power of the Buddha and imbued with exceptional karmic connections. In the year 2006, under a great karmic opportunity, with the introduction of Venerable Zhao Yuan, President of the Liaoning Buddhist Association, and with the mission of “implementing national religious policies and promoting national Buddhist culture,” Hailin Chan Temple was officially approved by the State Administration for Religious Affairs as an open site for Buddhist activities.

Over the years of construction, Hailin Chan Temple, situated deep in the mountains and forests, has developed over 100 acres of mountain land. Initially built by just a few monastics and lay practitioners, the efforts were humble, but their unwavering faith and determination moved the Buddha’s grace to bless the site—golden sand emerged during mountain clearing, sweet springs flowed from newly dug wells, and roads were completed with the protection of Dharma guardians. It was truly an extraordinary feat. With the joint support of devotees from all walks of life, the temple has now taken initial shape. Successively, the East Side Hall, Chanting Hall, Comprehensive Building, Dining Hall, West Lay Practitioners’ Quarters, Ksitigarbha Cave, and Bodhidharma Cave have been completed. The main structures of the temple, the Mahavira Hall and the Meditation Hall, were completed in 2014, fulfilling the greatest wish of Venerable Ming Shu. The ongoing construction of the Heavenly King Hall and the newly started five-story Avatamsaka Hall are key projects for 2015. Planned structures such as the 0 Hall and the Grand Dharma Hall will be initiated in due course. Additionally, the Guanyin Hall, Bell and Drum Towers, Grand Mountain Gate, and perimeter walls are all part of Venerable Ming Shu’s plans...

The Meditation Hall on the lower level of Hailin Chan Temple’s Mahavira Hall is highly distinctive, covering nearly 500 square meters. The hall is divided into inner and outer circles, accommodating 300 to 500 people for meditation simultaneously. The main door of the Meditation Hall hangs a plaque personally inscribed by Venerable De Lin, the 101-year-old abbot of Gaoyin Temple, which reads “Wu Xin Tang” (Hall of Insight).

Under the guidance of Abbot Ming Shu, everyone chants the Avatamsaka Sutra and sings the Forty-Two Letters of the Avatamsaka—the pearl of millennia-old Buddhist chants—offering the Dharma through sound. A single sound proclaims the teachings, resonating as the wondrous voice of the Tathagata, shaking the ten directions, subduing evil and outsiders, allowing all to hear, understand, and awaken to inconceivable wisdom through the Dharma gates, radiating majesty and virtue.

To restore the temple’s radiance and revive the pure sounds of the Dharma, Abbot Ming Shu and the disciples of Hailin Chan Temple humbly pray to eminent monastics, Dharma practitioners, and people from all walks of life, both in China and abroad, to cultivate bodhicitta, fulfill the bodhisattva’s vows, donate generously, contribute as one’s heart moves, jointly support this noble cause, and plant extensive karmic blessings.
