Shèhé National Wetland Park, Fushun, Liaoning

Shèhé National Wetland Park in Fushun, Liaoning, is a national-level wetland park.

To address non-point source pollution in the Shèhé River basin, reduce water flow velocity, filter pollutants such as organic matter and heavy metals through aquatic plants, control soil erosion, promote sedimentation and land formation, beautify the environment, and ensure water quality safety at the Shèhé River inlet, Fushun County planned and constructed the Shèhé Wetland Park. The project is scheduled to receive an investment of 70 million yuan. Based on varying altitudes and terrains, different vegetation will be planted to create a multi-layered green protection system. Sand excavation will be used to form small islands within the wetland. Projects such as a carbonized wood landscape display belt, a ten-kilometer ecological culture corridor, mountain leisure areas, and riverbank leisure zones will also be developed, with plans for gradual expansion southward. To date, nearly 48 million yuan has been invested, including 21 million yuan allocated for the construction of the project, completing the construction of the east and west viewing platforms and landscape works. An additional 27 million yuan has been invested to restore over 200 acres of farmland back to wetland, planting 80,000 square meters of lawns and aquatic plants.

On December 31, 2013, after the issuance of the "Notice of the State Forestry Administration on Approving the Pilot Project of 131 Wetlands Including the Yongding River Old Course in Wuqing, Tianjin as National Wetland Parks" (Lin Shi Fa [2013] No. 243), Shèhé Wetland Park in Fushun County was officially designated as a national-level wetland park. This adds another ecological protective barrier for the Dahuofang Reservoir and brings a beautiful new scenic attraction to both Fushun County and Fushun City.
