Zhu Rui Martyrs' Cemetery

Zhu Rui Martyrs' Cemetery is located in Yixian County, Jinzhou City. Zhu Rui was a senior commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and one of the founders of the artillery forces. During the Northeast Liberation War, he served as the commander of the Artillery Column of the Northeast Field Army. He sacrificed his life on October 1, 1948, during the battle to liberate Yixian County, and was the highest-ranking officer of our army to be killed in the Northeast Liberation War.

After the liberation, the people of Yixian County erected a memorial stele at the site where General Zhu Rui fell, inscribed with the words: “General Zhu Rui liberated Yixian County. Unfortunately, he sacrificed his life, and all mourn him. His loyal heart and heroic spirit shine brightly. This monument is erected to forever honor his noble example.” In 1986, the Communist Youth League Committee of Yixian County launched an appeal and raised funds to build the Zhu Rui Martyrs' Cemetery and reconstruct the martyrs’ memorial stele.

Yang Shangkun, then Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, inscribed the seven large characters: “Monument to Comrade Zhu Rui.” In 1993, with the approval of the provincial government, the cemetery was listed as a key revolutionary historical and cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province. In 1997, the county government decided to merge the Zhu Rui Martyrs' Cemetery with the Yixian County Martyrs' Cemetery. In May 1998, the Zhu Rui Martyrs' Monument was rebuilt and completed on the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Yixian County and the sacrifice of Zhu Rui.
